About the work: An exploration of the development of a girl into a woman, and the need to face the self with complete transparency and vulnerability. For Zehra, this transition into womanhood has been defined and enhanced by the role of family and culture, particularly relationships with her family in India. This painting explores the connections that dictates the nature of her relationship with herself and others.
 
About the aritst: Zehra Marikar is a 24-year-old multimedia artist, curator, creative practitioner, and entrepreneur based in London, from Chennai, India. Her art interweaves her reflections on home and identity and works with multiple mediums to explore how culture and geography shape notions of the self.
